Teams/Enterprise – Existing account with work email

Teams/Enterprise – Existing account with work email

You may have an existing LastPass personal/free account that is associated with your work/organisation email address. You might then receive an invitation to join a Teams/Enterprise account, and that invitation is sent to the same work email address as is already associated with your personal/free account.

You then need to make a choice, depending on your circumstances, as follows:

(Either) You store both personal and work things in your existing LastPass account:

In this case you probably want to change the email address associated with your existing LastPass personal/free account, so you can keep that separate from your new work/organisation Teams/Enterprise account. The steps you should take are:

  • Do not accept the Teams/Enterprise invitation yet.
  • Log into your existing personal/free account via your browser.
  • Once you are in the vault, navigate to Account Settings.
  • Change your Account Email to instead use a personal email access that you have access to.
  • Hit Send Test Email to confirm this has worked correctly.
  • Hit Update to save your changes.
  • Ask the Teams/Enterprise administration to remove your previous invitation and send you a new one (to your work/organisation email address).

When you receive the new invitation, follow the steps at:

  • I have an existing LastPass personal/free account and it is *not* associated with my work/organisation email address [CREATE LINK]

(Or) You only store work things in your existing LastPass account:

In this case you are probably happy for your existing LastPass account to *become* your work/organisation account, and to be subsumed into that Team/Enterprise vault. Your account will become subject to the policies defined for that Team/Enterprise, and when you leave the organisation you will also lose access to everything you previously had access to within that account.

You will still be able to create a separate LastPass personal/free account at any time, for personal use, and connect that into your Teams/Enterprise login in a way which remains accessible after you leave the organisation. The steps for this are covered in this article:

The steps for having your existing LastPass personal/free account *become* your new Teams/Enterprise account are as follows:

  1. In the invitation email, select option: “Use your existing LastPass account to join” and follow the link to “Activate Your LastPass Account”
  2. This will take you to your web browser. Click “Yes, add me!” to activate your teams account.

Once done you will be upgraded to a Teams account from a Free account, and you will see “Teams” or “Enterprise” under your account name at the top-right of the browser screen.
