Why can’t we just use the browser’s own password storage?
- All major browsers, as well as the Apple and (most) Android operating systems, offer to save passwords for you. Some even offer to create random ones for you, and can tell you when you are re-using the same password in multiple locations.
- We don’t comment on which of those solutions is the most or least secure.
- We also don’t comment on which have the best and worse features.
- It is worth noting however that all of those solutions are not configured or controlled centrally by your organisation, and are not available everywhere.
- Those solutions are generally specific to you as an individual, and can only be accessed from within a certain ecosystem (eg only within your Apple products; only within the Google products; or only at work and not easily from home or on the go).
- We therefore recommend a best-of-breed solution that can have (some/enough) best practice enforced by your organisation, and can be accessed from everywhere
